Are You Consuming Cancer-Causing Carcinogens?

It is has never been more important to focus on whole foods in their most raw, natural state. As food manufacturers and distributors discover more ways to make their foods last longer on the shelf, taste better and create an addiction-like habit to keep you buying more and more of their product, we are finding out the ingredients used to do-so may be extremely harmful to our health.

Exhibit A:
Caramel coloring

We most often find caramel coloring in foods like soda, bread, soy sauce, syrups and gravy. The research is still pretty recent, but what we do know right now is that caramel coloring contains carcinogens that cause cancer, birth defects and is so dangerous that products are likely going to be required to be labeled with such warnings in the future.

More specifically, our worries are in caramel coloring containing 4-MEI, a chemical which poses serious risk when consumed in high amounts. A 9-month study conducted in California by Consumer Reports showed 4-MEI to be the highest in Malta Goya, Pepsi One, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Coke. If what we already know about the health effects of drinking sodas and diet sodas hasn't prompted you to give them up, this should definitely push you over.

The problem is, the ingredient list on the food label is not required to tell us how much caramel coloring is used or what kind it is. Not only that, but the "natural" food label, doesn't cover caramel coloring. Your favorite soda might be all natural, but if it contains caramel coloring it is still potentially dangerous to your health. This is just another piece of evidence showing that the Food and Drug Administration does not have your best interest in mind. They are allowing food manufacturers to use carcinogens as an ingredient in food because they believe, when consumed in small amounts that these are not overly dangerous to our health.

Call me crazy but I am not interested in consuming any amount of carcinogens, thank you very much!
