Trust

Happy Thursday fit family!

My sweet friend Lauren shared this hilarious article with me via twitter this morning. If you are a frequent Whole Foods shopper you will get a kick out of this as well. You can view the link here. Super funny!

Working late on Thursdays to me, sounds awful at first. But when Thursday morning actually rolls around, I'm lovin' getting some stuff done around my apartment, taking the Fitness Pups on a nice long walk and getting my workout in AFTER the crack of dawn. It's kind of nice not having to be here until 10:15.

Morning Energy- 1 banana, chia seeds, spinach, a few cashews and 1/4 cup almond milk

I had somewhat of an epiphany last night- a really simple one for that matter but something that really hit home to me. Before my bike ride I was texting Zachary complaining about this lack of motivation I have been experiencing, really- since about two years ago. Now, don't get me wrong. I am still a pretty motivated individual when it comes to workouts and eating healthy. However, I used to have SO MUCH MORE energy and motivation. About two years ago I had a pretty serious injury that put me on the bench for about a solid 3 months. Ever since then, exercise has become almost a hassle. While I'm doing it and when I'm finished, I feel great. I mean, we all do! But I've developed this mindset that I "HAVE" to go work out or I "HAVE" to watch my calories. My mindset before used to be something more along the lines of I "GET" to go work out and I "get so much joy" out of choosing healthy foods.

Where did working out and eating healthy become a hassle instead of a joy? I think it started when I began to lose trust in my body. Watching our bodies and the scale go in what we believe are the wrong directions can be a HUGE head game. Especially during severe injuries in which I couldn't workout even if I really wanted to!

Last night during my bike ride it dawned on me. Lately my thoughts consist of, I have to work out or I'll regret it. Or, If I eat this now I will have to be really good at my next meal. It's this constant battle going on in my head that is DRIVING ME NUTS! Not only is it keeping me from enjoying the things that truly, I love to do, but keeping me from being my absolute best, healthiest most compassionate self.

It's actually really simple.

All I have to do, is treat my body right- nourish it with whole foods and exercise regularly and TRUST that it will take care of the rest.

I constantly preach it to my clients and people who ask me about vegetarianism and veganism that when we feed our bodies with the right fuel, we allow it to truly thrive. Even though I know that it's true, trusting my body to do just that has been such a challenge. I have to let go and let my body do it's thing! If I nourish my body correctly, sleep right and exercise, it will reward me in return with energy and lean body mass and physical capabilities well beyond that of which I am able to do now!

  1. Rather than I HAVE to workout or I CAN'T eat that I tell myself I don't HAVE to or I CAN that but (here it comes) I CHOOSE to not eat that or I CHOOSE to workout. So many people ask "Can't you eat this?" My answer, "Well yes I can but I choose not to." Life is full of choices everyday, every hour and making wise ones does get easier. So keep on keeping on The Fit Life fellow Fitties. (Loving the chai seeds in your drink so good for you).

    1. That's great advice! Though I would stick to real citrus over the candy version ;)
