Today is going to be a busy one for me! Work, prepping birthday presents for my special someone tomorrow and working on my fathers day gift! It's going to be a crazy one. Gotta love Mondays!
Because so many of us are dog owners (or pet owners), I thought I would share something a little different this morning. If you're like me, you are passionate about health for not only yourself but your family as well. And if you have been reading the blog, you know that a very special part of my family includes my two dogs, Grady and Muffin. I get asked often if I make them eat vegetarian/vegan and the answer is, absolutely not. I know that my pups would prefer meat over veggies any day so I try to buy a wholesome brand of nutritious dog food and choose treats that are made from real ingredients. As long as they are getting their vitamins and minerals, I am satisfied!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup milk (I use skim because they will already get essential fats from the pb)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Mix together the whole wheat flour and baking powder in a bowl.
- Using a separate bowl, stir together the milk and peanut butter until smooth.
- Slowly add in the flour mix, stirring.
- Roll out dough to about 1/4" thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to create shapes and place on cookie sheet.
- Bake until lightly brown (approximately 20 minutes).
I like to make them even more fun by cutting them into doggie shapes. Another way I typically use this recipe is for Christmas treats for my friends with dogs. Mixing up the Christmas cookie cutters with bones and dogs makes for a cute little gift.
Do you make healthy homemade treats for your pets?
