Beat the Heat!

Good afternoon!

Is anyone else hot? We definitely are over here in Wilmington. I've got some tips for ya'll today to help you keep cool during this midst of the Summer heat!

Enjoy Healthy Cold Foods
I just enjoyed this delicious Cobb salad from the clubhouse for lunch!
  • Crisp romaine lettuce
  • Corn
  • Feta Cheese, crumbled
  • Croutons
  • Cherry Tomatoes, cut in half
  • Hard Boiled Egg, chilled and sliced
  • Avocado, sliced
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Salads are a great way to get your veggies in, and are great topped with chilled hard boiled eggs, beans, chickpeas, or lentils for added protein.  They can also be topped with chicken/salmon/other lean meats if your not a veghead like me! Just make sure everything is cold before you mix it all together.

Other foods to cool you down include fruit infused water, iced tea/coffee, smoothies, frozen grapes or other fruits you enjoy and crisp veggies with hummus.

Take a cold shower
Especially if you are someone who has difficulty sleeping in the heat, taking a cold shower right before bed can do the trick. Another tip for staying cool during hot sticky nights? Throw your sheets in a ziplock baggy and put them in the fridge or the freezer.

Create a cross-breeze
Open a window and then place a fan directly across from it to create a combined cross cooling draft. Set up more fans to make it even cooler.

Invest in a Chillow

I didn't even know these things existed, but apparently you slide them right into your pillow case. They are filled with water and the circulation of the water is what keeps it cool.

Drink more ice water to bring your core temperature down, especially right before bed.

Hang a wet sheet in front of an open window will quickly bring the temperature down in an entire room.

Take an Aqua Fitness class, or hang out in the pool.
