Today has been a crazy busy day, I can't wait to get to the gym to get some time for myself! As of now, my plans are a 5:45 RPM class- this is the Les Mills version of spinning. I'm actually not a huge fan of it, because I don't always like the set sequences and lack of flexibility of Les Mills classes. Les Mills classes are really popular, but they all work off of choreography that changes monthly. So the music and moves in each class are exactly the same for a month. The instructor has no choice to vary the moves depending on their audience or put their original, unique touch on anything. These classes don't require the instructor to truly learn anything because they are told exactly how and what to teach.
However, I am in need of a good sweat, and not really in the mood to think about my workout. Jumping on a bike and having someone tell me what to do is exactly what I'm looking for today. This just happened to be a class that fit into my schedule so I'll let ya know how it goes!
Now, let's talk about joy!
This time of year is supposed to be about happiness, spending time with family, relaxation, gratefulness and joy! You know the song, "Joy to the World...." And why shouldn't we be feeling joy during a time with relatives who are basically strangers, travelling through winter storms, spending every last dime on presents and more food prep than one person or normal sized kitchen can handle?
"The ancient Egyptians believed that when you arrive at the gates of Heaven, you are asked two questions and your answer to these questions determines whether you are admitted.
- Have you found joy in your life?
- Has your life brought joy to others?"
(Taken from movie: The Bucket List)
Great questions! We can find joy by turning our attention toward the present, with a full heart and open mind. We must be willing to receive happiness as well as give it. I watched a sermon online a couple weeks ago in which the Pastor nailed it on the head. Everyone wants to be happy. You hear people say it, all the time, "I just want to be happy." We feel it is our God-given right to be happy and find joy in things. But joy is in the eye of the beholder. He said, "so you want to be happy....with what?"
The object or the situation is not what makes you happy, it's what you DO with the object and how you perceive it that brings true joy. What is it that you want to be happy with? Your job, your relationship, your volunteer position, your Christmas Eve at your in-laws house?
Instead of looking for people and things and scenarios to make us happy, it's all about how we perceive them. Are we truly embracing the moment and taking time to take pleasure and joy in these things? Your happiness is ultimately up to you!
Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey, and share our love!
