Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!
This morning is flying by as I have a lot to get accomplished this morning before my brother gets here and we head out to Garner, NC for the evening. My brother and dad happened to be working in two different spots near Wilmington so they both are making a special trip to spend the weekend with me. I'm so lucky! Due to some unfortunate events earlier this week, our plans have changed a bit taking us to Garner for tonight and then back to Wilmington tomorrow afternoon. I am so excited to spend some time with my family, plus I'll get to see Zachary for a little bit tonight so that always makes me smile.
Yesterday during our staff meeting, I had Good and Welfare for the week meaning it was my turn to bring an activity for the group to do together. I kept the Thanksgiving spirit and challenged everyone to think of the following to share with the group:
List one item in each category that you are thankful for:
- An Event
- A Place
- An Intangible
- An Object
- and a Person
I thought it might be fun to share some of mine and then I'd love to hear some of your guys'!
The event that stands out in my mind the most is taking my position at UNCW last August. Although I didn't stay there long, it turned out to be one of the best risks I ever took. After graduating from Marshall in Huntington, West Virginia, I could have waited to find a job near there or near family but I decided to take the very big risk of moving to a new city, all alone. I am at a very happy place in my life now working at Porters Neck Country Club which would have never come about without first taking that position. Plus, I would have never met Zachary! That alone, made all of the initial struggles worth it.
I have a couple places that I am especially thankful for right now. One is Paws Place, the kennel I am volunteering at for dogs who are need of being adopted. It makes me so happy to spend my time giving back to something I care so much about, and also I just LOVE being surrounded by all those cute, little furry faces. Too much fun! The second place would be home. My parents are currently living in Omaha, Nebraska and although I have never lived there myself, home is where your family is. I am so grateful for anytime I get to spend with my parents, grandma and siblings! Fortunately for us, my brother will also be going to Omaha for Thanksgiving this year so we will all be in one place which makes home especially nice!
If you are unfamiliar with the word intangible, I am referring here to something that you cannot touch. So an example would be laughter or vision etc. The intangible I am most thankful for would definitely the excitement I receive from my Pups when I walk in the door every evening. The way their whole body is just wiggling with anxiousness to lick and love on me, is the best feeling ever!!
One object I think I would choose would be food!! I'm so thankful for all the vegan options that are available these days! Another object I'm especially thankful for lately is my Garmin Forerunner watch that does everything I need during a run or biking workout including counting calories and tracking my mileage with a built in GPS. So useful. (Thanks Zachary!!)
Lastly, of course it is tough to pick one person. I am always thankful for all of my family members, Zach and my friends. In this moment, one person I am especially thankful for is my friend Molly for watching the Fitness Pups for me while I'm in Garner tonight. Thanks Molls!
Lauren B., Molly, myself and Lauren M. last year at the Seahawk Fitness Christmas Party
Now it's your turn!
What is one event, place, intangible, object and/or person you are thankful for this year?
