Why You Should Exercise on the Weekends

Are you one of the many common people who work out Monday through Friday and take the weekends off? Here's why you need to change up your routine.

  •  You'll save time. Monday through Friday you have long work days, class, picking up children, appointments, etc. You're running around doing errands and probably have to rush or wake up at the crack of dawn to get your workout in. Pick your busiest day of the week and choose that as your off day!
  • You'll be more motivated. Exercising on the weekends might motivate you to keep those typical cheat meals, desserts and alcoholic beverages to a minimum. If you work hard Saturday morning, you are going to be less likely to want to destroy your hard work with your diet Saturday night.
  • You'll have more energy. You are more likely to have a great workout if you aren't exhausted because it's 4am or because it's late and you've been working all day. On a Saturday or Sunday you can get up, take your time with you cup of coffee and a solid breakfast and make your way to the gym when you're ready!
  • You'll get a better workout in. On the weekends we typically have a more relaxed schedule. We may have to-do lists but they are less time regimented. Your workout can be a priority on your list of things to do and you can have peace of mind knowing if you want 2 hours at the gym, you can take it.
  • You'll earn that extra beer. If you're going to drink a six-pack during the Sunday football game, you're gonna drink a six pack. But wouldn't it be much better if you had already burned an extra 300-500 calories exercising that morning?
  • You can use it as bonding time. Just like you, most of your friends or family members have some extra free time on the weekends. Catch up with a friend and go for a walk together, or take your family for a hike followed up with a healthy picnic! Exercise doesn't have to be done in a gym.
