Gym Cardio Boredom Busters

Hello from 26 degree and windy Wilmington where it feels like 14 out. If it's going to be this cold, I'd like some pretty snow flurries at least!

I hope you are well rested and your Saturday is off to a great start. I had a full TRX class this morning and the gym is still very busy. I'm happy to see people staying on the New Year wagon thus far! I hope your goals are going smoothly as well and you're more committed each day!

After work, Zachary and I went to the gym for an afternoon workout. I warmed up with a 20 minute walk on the treadmill and then ventured on my own to do an bis/tris workout. I completed 30 sets that looked like the following:

I rounded out my workout with 25 more minutes walking on the treadmill. It was a good one!

I had a conversation with some members this morning about things you can do to keep your mind occupied while doing steady state cardio on a machine at the gym. I thought you might be interested to see what we came up with! Maybe one of these ideas will help get you through your next cardio session.

Gym Steady State Cardio- Boredom BUSTERS
  • Start a Netflix or Hulu series on your iPad or tablet
  • Watch a movie
  • Play a game on your phone/tablet
  • Make a new music playlist
  • Read a book/ebook
  • Check facebook/twitter
  • Browse magazines
  • Make lists on your phone
    • Things to do
    • Grocery shopping list
    • Meal Planning
  • Chat with a friend
Of course, most of these you only want to do during steady state cardio meaning- you're typically going at a comfortable pace in which your mind is able to focus on something else. If you are training hard or doing any sort of interval work, or using a new machine you aren't yet comfortable with- obviously, for safety reasons you will want to have your full attention on the exercise. Safety first!

Question of the evening:
What do you do to keep from getting bored while your doing steady state cardio at the gym?
