It's a koozie that says Love Muffin on it, how cute is that!
Muffin would be so proud :)
If you jog the loop it is about 4.5 miles. There are also paddleboats and kayaks you can rent for $10 an hour. My friend and I actually took a paddleboat out one day and saw two alligators! Good little workout.
After my run I came home and made myself a shake to take to work for my first meal of the day.
In the Magic Bullet Cup:
- 1 scoop Vega One Protein powder in Chocolate (see below)
- 2 tbsp Chocolate PB2
- 3/4 frozen banana
- 3/4 cup Trader Joes Vanilla Soy Milk
- 5 ice cubes
If you have never used a Magic Bullet before, they are awesome and convenient for blended drinks. All I do is fill up my cup with all my ingredients, blend it all up, and then pull the cup off and put a top on it and it's ready to go. I can drink straight from the cup. Easy to make and easy to clean, my kinda meal!
Just a few quick notes about the Vega One protein I use:
- It's completely plant derived so animal friendly
- It comes in Chocolate, French Vanilla, Berry, and Vanilla Chai
- I have tried everything but the berry. They are all delicious. You can definitely taste the difference between Vegan protein and non-vegan protein, they have more of a plant taste versus a creamy-milky taste. When mixed or blended with fruit or almond milk etc, you can't tell the difference.
- It also comes in single serving sizes, but buying in bulk is a bit cheaper.
- I buy it at Whole Foods- it is expensive but it is worth it because of the nutrition content- 15g protein, 6g fiber, 2.5 servings of omega 3s, 3 servings of vegetables, and also contains probiotics and antioxidants. There are no other proteins out there that can do this much for you nutrient-wise in ~150 calories.
Also, to follow up from yesterdays post about Protein Supplementation- I did have a question from a member about cholesterol in soy versus whey products. Here's the scoop:
- Soy is considered safe in moderate doses (1-2 servings per day) for men. It will cause estrogen levels to increase in anything beyond that and the research to determine whether or not this may be linked to breast cancer and other estrogen/hormone related issues is still not complete. Until we know further, it is just like everything else, safe in moderation.
- Cholesterol is not necessarily in every whey/casein product. There are many products that are cholesterol free. It's all about checking the label to make sure the nutrient content matches your needs and then going for taste/price after that. It's a trial and error type process.
- I would suggest to someone with high cholesterol (although remember, I am not a doctor or dietitian, but I do have a degree in nutrition) - to monitor their cholesterol as normal and either find a whey product without cholesterol and or switch off between the soy and the whey. Moderation of anything is key. Males specifically want to avoid consuming too much soy, although again the research is not definite on it's effects in large amounts in women either.
- The perks to consuming whey versus soy is that amino acids are better absorbed from animal based products as compared to plant based. Also, the fast acting whey is essential for those using the supplement as a pre/post workout for muscle recovery.
Hope that helps answer your question. Like everything else, I will re-emphasize, everything in moderation. (And listening to your doctor of course!) Have a wonderful day!
Do you have a magic bullet or special blender? What kinds of quick/healthy recipes do you like to whip up?
While you were away, the fitness pups called and complained of their citrus deficiency, so we changed the animal friendly organic soy order to a carton of orange slices . . .
ReplyDeleteVery funny! I do not make Grady and Muffin eat vegan thank you very much. Although I'm certain they would love to eat orange slices with their Grandpa. ;)
